As a senior student here at KU, I am preparing for my required internship as a Professional Writing major. One of the required events needed to complete the Career Development Certificate is the “Mock” interview. I have my interview scheduled and the date set, which left only one crucial thing left for me to complete.

Naturally, at these mock interviews there is the expectation of formality, proper etiquette for meeting these volunteer employers, and of course style. So upon entering the Stratton Administration Center 113, I met the receptionist and was guided to the room where they store all of their business attire.

The room was quite large as many racks of dress shirts, jackets, blazers, ties, and other formal attire stood on all sides. Having settled in, the hard part was about to begin.

Choosing the right apparel.

I first looked for pants and swiftly picked out a nice black pair of pants. After that, I strode over to the shirt section. I prefer the black-and-white aesthetic as opposed to grays, blues, or browns when it comes to professional wear. However, the first shirt I tried on was just an inch too small in sleeve length. After a few minutes of additional searching, I found one that fit perfectly. The last thing I needed was a nice black jacket to go along with the pants and to contrast my shirt. The inside of the jacket I found had a silk lining with a rich dark blue trim. Once the look was complete, I knew that I had an excellent suit.

Each item cost only $2 for me, coming in at a total of $6. Having carefully pried out six dollars from my wallet, I strode my way out of Stratton, bag full of new clothing in hand and a smile on my face.

I had the finest suit I could ask for. And I knew I would enter my interview with style.
